MISSION & HISTORY.
Our Story
ViequesLove formed to provide aide to Vieques after Hurricane Maria struck the island on September 20th, 2017 and the first to land a plane full of satellite phones and supplies five days after the storm. Our volunteers worked around the clock to secure lives, provide necessities, and provide support where it was most needed. Since then, we have focused on preparing the island for another event and collaborating with all organizations working toward a sustainable resilient future.​

Vieques now has a multi-level emergency communication system and more trained personnel than ever before. The government emergency plans are better prepared should a hurricane hit the island. 80% of the island has been vaccinated with the active help of ViequesLove coordination. The Covid cases have been milder, and the medical personnel has access to monoclonal antibodies. Our current projects are working in coordinatoion with the local government and other non profits. It is our hope that 2022 will mark the completion of several phases of the Asset Mapping and Street Naming projects.
